Working on these last few details for the Jazz painting. I’ve had the best time with this!
Last week was our first wedding anniversary, so we spent some time in the mountains of Tennessee. So much fun! I can’t believe it’s been a year already. It feels great getting back into the studio, though. I’ve got lots to work on and I’m excited to plan and paint more for the Riverfront Market.
Logo design idea. The word “Zelos” is Portuguese for passion or zeal—the youth group at my church is starting a coffee shop/fundraiser, and all the proceeds will go to missionaries around the world through Speed the Light Ministries.
Glazing in details. The end is near!
More progress on this jazz painting. I’m not sure how long it will take me to finish, but I’m moving along faster than I thought. It’s got a lot more gold and red to it, but hopefully I can get it scanned so the colors run true to the work. I feel good about it! My parents want a print, so that must be a good thing ;) It’s growing on me quite a bit…
This is my Scary-But-Oh-So-Exciting thing of the day. If accepted, this will be my first outdoor art festival!

Happy Mother’s Day to the best woman I know!
New piece started! It’s going to be a 12x36. This shape and composition is new for me, but I’m excited to see where it takes me! I’m not working the rest of the week so I’ll have plenty of time to devote to some heavy color.
Inspired
I just finished planning my summer camp program and putting a supply list together for a grant proposal. I feel really accomplished tonight! No procrastination here…
Today was a full day of teaching, and tomorrow wraps up the spring art program. The kids have been great, and the teachers have been amazing and helpful as well. This is why I love art—to see students smile as their brain gives them that “Aha!” moment, where they’ve mastered the process they’ve been challenged with, they’re proud of what they’ve created and want to try more ambitious things. I even got a few hugs at the end of the day. At the end of it all, I’m inspired. I want to push myself to be a better instructor as well as a better artist overall. It’s an amazing feeling.
